A 10-week virtual skills group for pregnant and postpartum parents
This perinatal DBT skills group is designed for pregnant and postpartum parents who are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, or disconnected from themselves or their child. Participants will learn practical skills for emotional regulation, stress management, mindfulness, and self-attunement in a supportive, non-judgmental space.

Meet the Facilitator
Saadiqa Kumanyika, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in maternal mental health. She works with pregnant and postpartum parents navigating emotional overwhelm, anxiety, and major life transitions. Saadiqa brings a trauma-informed, DBT-informed approach to group work, emphasizing emotional regulation, connection, and compassion.
She completed an 18-hour Strong Roots Peripartum DBT training, an evidence-based, skills-focused curriculum specifically designed for the perinatal period. Strong Roots Peripartum DBT integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy with perinatal mental health research to support parents in managing intense emotions, strengthening self-attunement, and building resilience during pregnancy and postpartum.
Her groups are intentionally designed to feel supportive, structured, and non-judgmental, offering a balance of practical skills, shared learning, and compassionate guidance.

A preventive mental health group for people considering pregnancy
Grounded Beginnings is a clinician-led group for individuals and couples who are thinking about pregnancy and want to feel more grounded, prepared, and supported before stress and overwhelm begin.This group focuses on: Emotional readiness and nervous system regulation, Relationship and role shifts that often accompany parenthood, Financial and lifestyle realities that impact mental health, Support planning and early mental health care.
This is not a parenting or childbirth class. It is a preventive mental health offering designed to reduce avoidable distress by addressing known emotional, relational, and practical stressors before pregnancy and postpartum transitions. The group is ideal for people who feel excited, uncertain, anxious, or ambivalent—and want a thoughtful, trauma-informed space to prepare for this major life change.
